It goes without saying that I am a massive sports fan.
In fact, I consume sports at a rate that a number of medical personnel would deem unhealthy! I could be doing worse I suppose but the main driving passion in my life is sport.
Music is a close second alright but sport is the one thing which gets the adrenaline going and the chance to go to a major sporting event is one which I have to grab with both hands…even if it means a full scale re-arranging of life and plans within it.
Thankfully it hasn’t caused any sort of great difficulty with anything but I will admit I would be willing to push the boundaries of planning and arranging to get to a World Cup Final for example.
However, every day I dream of being involved at the cutting edge of each of every single major sporting event.
To a normal person, that does sound ridiculous…mainly because how is it possible to do that when some of them overlap? My solution is quite simple…spend a year with each sport.
I have been to the Open, Wimbledon, Champions League Final, a number of rugby and soccer internationals, even working at the 2024 UEFA Europa League Final, my heart lies in these events.
I would love to work on a communications team/project for a year in F1, do a year with the PGA Tour, do a year on the ATP/WTA tour incorporating the majors, work with a national team at the Olympics – preferably Ireland, and the dream job of all, be the spokesperson for the Irish national football team for a prolonged period including a World Cup.
These may seem like pipe dreams and perhaps overly ambitious but it is something that occupies my mind and every day I am scheming to find a way how to bring this plan to fruition.
I have been involved at the highest level of the game of football taking in European games in robust and raucous atmosphere’s. That is the kind of adrenaline I know that would put some people off however it is something I thrive on.
The pressure, the expectation, the thrill, the jeopardy of it all is precisely what I look forward to.
Getting to experience all of that and over a number of different sporting worlds is a dream I have held since I was in childhood. The older I get I realise it is exactly what I want and need in life.
Maybe the break will come soon and I will be on the global circuit. Until then, I can dream…
